** 2020 Fleet Half Marathon Cancellation Statement**

By January 30, 2020 No Comments

Dear All,

Following the decision to postpone the 2020 Fleet Half Marathon last weekend due to the evolving situation surrounding the COVID-19, we have come to the very difficult conclusion to cancel this year’s race.

We have considered a number of options to re-stage the race in 2020 but ultimately decided that this is not feasible due to the huge amount of additional work involved for the voluntary organising committee, the fact that several key suppliers do not have any availability, combined with continued uncertainty and the number of events being shifted to the Autumn which is already a busy time of year in the racing calendar.  We also have our own 10k race on 18th October to consider.

I will be sending a separate email to a few of you with regard to some specifics around last weekend.

All runners were sent an email on Friday with their options.  Many of our costs incurred during the build up are non-recoverable so we will have to dig into club reserves but to what extent is not fully understood as yet.  However we believe there was little choice last weekend and we know we did the right thing.  A week on and things are even worse.

We thank you for your support both last weekend and we hope with our decision – it really is appreciated and valued by the team.  The date for the event next year is Sunday 21st March 2021 – so please pencil it in your diary now.  Let’s hope that next year it can be a race of celebration.  We will be in touch again after this horrible episode is over and we can all look forward to 2021.

The next few months are going to be difficult times for everyone and we trust that you and your families can stay safe and healthy.

Regards

Penny
